One Empire too many
We all know how America became the most powerful and respected country in the world after WW2. After having put almost 16 Million uniformed men across the world to fight Germany's Nazism and Japans propagated expansionism, it was unavoidable for the USA not to have catapulted itself into the most powerful country in the world. The cold war and the resulting eccentricities exercised was also somehow comprehensible and tolerated by everyone, since the alternative was Stalinization of the world as was the case with half Europe and that was a dreadful scenario.
However, in 1989 the Cold war came to an end in the most dramatical manner. The fall of the Berlin Wall and the disintegration of the Soviet Union manifested a massive change for our World…. but America did not change. As China and Russia started to take over the markets of the world, The US kept soldiering on and militarizing every aspect of their policies and economy as NATO kept expanding with ex Warsaw Pact countries, as if there was no tomorrow. America invaded Panama, Haiti, Iraq (Twice) Liberated Kuwait, went into Somalia, Bosnia, Bombed Serbia and lastly Afghanistan, now the US is getting ready and setting the stage for yet another war…. IRAN.
Officially The USA has 716 bases in 38 countries, unofficially after a research it was discovered that the US has some 1000 facilities (Many secret) in 148 countries and 11 territories (the biggest are 100 000 in Iraq, 100 000 in Afghanistan, 28 000 in Korea, 35 000 in Japan, 50 000 in Germany) estimate for the fix costs on all the above including the 16 intelligence agencies and the castle like embassies exceed 1 trillion $. A ridiculous argument, to insist for the necessity of all this “Overkill”, yet they are there and from time to time inevitably a war must be arranged to justify more money, more militarism, and more radicalism in the US political scenery.
How much longer the American people want to kick this heavy ball up the road and tolerate this incompetence beats me, considering how regularly the US government keeps burrowing billions from Europe, Japan, the Persian Gulf states, in order to defend the very same regions from whom one might want to ask….. or the billions burrowed annually from China to defend Asia from China…simply ridiculous. Patrick Buchanan wrote “How could conservatives whose defining virtue is prudence and who pride themselves on following the lamp of experience have been taken into camp by the hustlers and hucksters of empire?” (implying the Neo-Cons and AIPAC members)
The unfortunate conclusion is, the once respected America is now not respected anymore, they are either feared or detested, and should they insist on keeping their present posture and keep starting wars and conflicts, it would be a matter of time before the fearful and the hateful find to each other and simply say …enough.
