Iran holds the key to stability in Iraq
It's too bad Gen. David Petreaus and U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker have to come all the way from Baghdad this week to Congress.
it is well known, their testimony will change little.
Bush won't shift course before his term ends. Troops will draw down some, but not below the so called pre surge levels, the US military will remain overstretched. The possibility of shaping a different Iraq won't emerge until a new president is elected.
Meantime, the realities on the ground were brutally laid bare over the past two weeks by the fighting in Basra, Iraq's security situation is the same as ever , and remains volatile. The hope of improved security that would enable Iraqi factions to unite, and the Iraqi army to take over security is as far a dream as the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was.
That brings Iran into this equilibrium. The only stable, strong and clever player in this attempted robbery of Oil wealth by the US interest group running the show in the US.Give Iran what it wants, and thou shalt be free USA.
