Time will show!
These days
we are constantly confronted with news coverage of a Bradley Manning or an
Edward Snowden, as were yesterday with a Julian Assange . According to the US,
these are supposed criminals deserving death and imprisonments of draconian
magnitudes. However, by taking a few steps
away from the events and by looking at the whole picture??? We see a repeat of
history in so many ways!
Not so long
ago, in history there were names like Stauffenberg, Schindler or a William Wallace, who also swam
against the mainstream at great risk and called traitors and terrorists, but history, rehabilitated them (there
are thousands more like them....). The resistance of the French during the WW2 was also called a Terrorist
organization (very much like some contemporary resistance forces) until they
prevailed….and today, everyone wants to have been one.
On the other side, Herodotus the storyteller, praised for decades if not centuries, is now unmasked as the equivalent of a Julius Streicher of the Stuermer newspaper….. As is a William Shakespeare and the impossibility of this uneducated hobby actor of being an author instead of an Edward de Vere….. There are hundreds of identical examples, only visible should one be interested. But, as it is always the case a human mind tends to be selective with the facts and allows ones doubts to excuse one’s own instincts in order to sustain a certain social and living standard, now regardless of the element of “Justice” or "fair play".

To simplify
it, such issues are mostly a political perspective rather than a fact, and
depending what side of the desk one stands and what political ideologies one sympathizes
with (which itself is the result of one’s childhood experiences and
upbringings) one defines, renounces or admires and promotes…. The criminals of today could well
become the heroes of tomorrow, as in today’s literature the pirates of yesterday who were also the terrorists
of yesterday are suddenly the
protagonists, and the British imperium (The USA of yesterday) the antagonists, isn’t
it ironic !!?
This however, is by all means no comfort to those enduring this wrath of revenge (not justice) that we keep hearing of.
