The Algiers Accord 1975
Hoshiyar Zeibari the ex-terrorist and present Iraqi foreign minister, has questioned the "Algiers Accord of 1975" the very Accord for which 230 000 Iranians died, over half a million others injured, just to preserve and uphold it. As a reminder,"Saddam Hussein tore the Accord up in TV declared war on Iran in 1980, 5 years after signing it and after 8 years of war and bloodshed, accepted and recognized it again". Today, suddenly comes a sleazy "wannabe" politician, intoxicated by the US presence in Iraq, thus considering himself to be untouchable, that we have to renegotiate the Algiers Accord. Zeibari is also responsible for the raid on the Iranian consulate in Kurdistan/Iraq, he personally asked the US forces to arrest the 5 Iranian Diplomats that have been in US prison in the so called Green Zone of Baghdad for the last 2 years, the very people he had invited.
His recently acquired anti Iranian approach/attitude, comes from the fact that Iran has begun building a massive wall,(100 km long and 20m. high to start with..) along the demarcation line of the Algiers Accord, in the Turkish/Iraq/Iran border line and thus forcing the Kurdish aspirations of statehood to limiting itself on the Iraqi side. Irans, rejection of supporting and recognizing an eventual state called "Kurdistan" should it one day emerge, was also a reason to betray Iranian diplomats to the US forces. What this self oriented Amateur for a politician never seems to consider, is the fact that Iran has international obligations when it comes to countries and borders, and Iranians are no Arabs to suddenly tear accords up, just because they are in a position to do so.
Had we been living in some Hollywood movie a la "Godfather" Hoshiyar Zeibari would have been the best candidate to get "whacked" by the family for his impertinence.
Nevertheless, I copy the four relevant points of the Algiers Accord of 1975 for all to remember.
1- Carry out a final delineation of their land boundaries in accordance with the Constantinople Protocol of 1913 and the Proceedings of the Border Delimitation Commission of 1914.
2- Demarcate their river boundaries according to the thalweg line.
3- Accordingly, the two parties shall restore security and mutual confidence along their joint borders. They shall also commit themselves to carry out a strict and effective observation of their joint borders so as to put an end to all infiltrations of a subversive nature wherever they may come from.
4- The two parties have also agreed to consider the aforesaid arrangements as inseparable elements of a comprehensive solution. Consequently, any infringement of one of its components shall naturally contradict the spirit of the Algiers Accord.
