Iran Air Flight 655 was shot down by USS Vincennes on the Iranian Port "Bandar Abbas"-Dubai rout, which resulted in the loss of 290 civilians from 6 different nations including 66 children. It was declared a tragic mistake by the US admin.. and later compensated. But what was never forgotten , was the fact that The Capt of the vessel Cap. Will Rogers III was shortly afterwards decorated by Reagan the US President. Question is, why would one decorate a Captain that has murdered (by mistake) 290 innocent civilians...??? One usually gets a medal when one carries out a very difficult mission. The Iranian side declared, later that the Americans had warned Iran not to pursue the Iraq war and leave Saddam Hussein alone... and that was a warning which is documented.
